Many people expect the Universe (or that which many people call Source or God) to be all knowing and able to control everything that happens; as if all of us were just chess pieces being played in the name of some greater plan that has already been decided upon. In other words, the relationship they have with the universe is rather like the relationship they have with their parents when they are three... projected onto the Universe.
