Meditation for long periods of time

5 posts in this topic

I want to share some experiences with you about meditating for very long because i noticed that i am meditating for over 1 year now and never did it for more than 2 hours straight although i wanted to try it for very long for surely 8 months now. Thats why i am highly determined to do it for about 6 hours today and i will share my experience here.
Did you already had an experience with such long meditation periods?
I know teal is not the greatest advocate for long meditation because she says its boring for source but i watched a ton of videos and i think it would be the best i can do for my health i actually want to establish the habit of meditating at least  3 hours a day if i feel really tired i can keep it at 2 hours but if i would go less than 2 hours i will "punish" myself by not allowing myself to masturbate for the next few days because i think the sexual drive is really strong and this would even motivate my subconscious.

Edit: Forgot to mention im trying to practise a kind of hybrid type of meditation between the Do Nothing technique and Emotional Vipassana.
Do Nothing: I just lay down with open eyes and let my mind wander over all the thoughts it wants to without trying to control anything it is like working over all the troubles of life with autopilot.
Emotional Vipassana: Trying to feel your emotions as intensive as you can, figuring out the feeling flavour and what that emotion might be.

Those combined would be basically just let any feeling, emotion, thought or sensation... happen to you without trying to control it. I have open eyes because it helps me not to fall asleep when i lay down also it becomes much more enjoyable over such long periods of time.

So i did not make it to the 6 hour mark but in total i meditated about 5 hours today 20 minutes in the morning and this session was about 4 hours and 35 minutes. I just felt too tired towards the end. But it was surely worth it but i think it is way more effective to have daily practise of about 2-3 hours than having that long sessions of like 4-8 hours because it gets really tiring to focus.
at about 2 hours I felt really amazing the clarity was astounding. At 3 hours I was about to give up it felt terrible but then I closed my eyes and continued like that after a while I started seeing flickering (maybe vibration) but it was flickering so fast that im not sure if it was white or I just could not see the colour because it was flickering so fast. Also I saw this static like on a tv screen all the time.
Than it seemed like i would have been talking with my higher self he told me what to do to get close to enlightenment.
I had to become my third eye like raise the focus so much into the inside of my brain that it would feel like i would be flexing a muscle inside, this while i would take fast but gentle and really long breaths and imagine my third eye to expand finally i would try to make the third eye vibrate and this would lead to my head shaking rapidly but i would also feel a kind of tingling sensation inside of my brain.
After this i saw a small perfectly round dot and my higher self said if you manage to expand this dot so that it will fill up your awareness completely you will reach the first level of enlightenment.
Thats basically the end of it after this i could not really focus on the third eye anymore it felt like its power was depleted im basically training the "muscle".

I know meditating very long for hours that way could diminish the quality and clarity of the meditation. Think quality over quantity. Or perhaps your meditation is actually both quality and quantity so good on ya! I too meditate sometimes with my eyes open, I feel like my mind wanders when my eyes are closed and there's nothing to look at.

Also that's amazing you did it for so long, kudos to you! I try for about 30min a day. Are you into Hermetics or asceticism at all? I tried their techniques on disciplining myself by not having sexual thoughts, urges, eating vegetarian; pea exercises by throwing 100 peas on the floor and picking them up one by one slowly and focusing on just that without getting frustrated at all, etc. in one week I saw amazing results.

Yes it most likely would diminish the quality but as i said i think you can train yourself to be able to have high quality meditation for longer periods of time.
I was also going 30-60 minutes usually but i want to speed up things and i saw a video today which made me do it for healths sake.

What convinced me is the astounding biological age decrease meditation has to offer.
I usually dont categorize myself in philosophies because i think there are always parts of philosophies which might not be in alignment with oneself. I just make up my own mind and try to find out the way to live a happy and healthy life. But i would say that i get close to asceticism. I dont care about material things other than for survivals sake but still i do try to be successful in our society because it kinda is exciting still even though i wish things would be different. I stopped porn recently and am vegetarian for about 2 months now.
Interestingly as he shows in the video people tend to think more about things they actually want to banish from their mind than things they let come up thats why i think the do nothing meditation i described above is the best way. I give in to everything and it disappears from alone. What you resist persists.
